What are the difference and advantages of fusion inhibitor compared with traditional anti-HIV drugs? Which stage of anti-HIV drugs dose Sifuvirtide belong to? |
| |
---------------------------------------------------------- |
NRTI, NNRTI, PI and cocktail treatment have two unconquered disadvantages: drug resistance and high toxicity. Whereas, fusion inhibitors, whose target is gp41 protein, have advantages, such as lower toxicity, less drug resistance, inhibiting HIV at the early stage and action outside cells. Therefore, they will improve life quality of HIV/AIDS patients. Sifuvirtide belongs to the new type of anti-HIV drugs!fusion inhibitor. |

2. |
How many times is Sifuvirtide administered daily? |
| |
----------------------------------------------------------
Sifuvirtide belongs to peptide drugs, whose administration route is subcutaneous injection. Results of HIV infected persons in phase Ib and IIa clinical trials indicated: 20 mg Sifuvirtide daily had a significant efficacy for early HIV infected persons. Thereby, the frequency of Sifuvirtide injection is temporally intended to be 20 mg once daily, which was lower than that of other fusion inhibitors (B.I.D) and some traditional anti-HIV drugs (B.I.D or T.I.D). This not only makes anti-HIV/AIDS treatment easier, but is conducive to raise patients¨ compliance and to reduce influence on patients¨ daily life as well. |

Is it difficult for common sufferers to inject Sifuvirtide themselves? Is it necessary to be administrated Sifuvirtide in cliniques or hospitals? |
| |
----------------------------------------------------------
It seems to be not difficult. After patients accept a simple training, it is not difficult for them to administrate Sifuvirtide independently (just as the independent SC injection of insulin for diabetic patients) |

I has just been diagnosed as HIV infection, and CD4 is 680 cells/mm3, viral load is 2000 copies/ml. Should I initiate my treatment now? |
| |
----------------------------------------------------------
According to related state regulations, patients with CD4 < 200 cells/mm3 or 200 ~ 350 cells/mm3 (reduction > 30% within one year) need to initiate antiviral treatment. Based on your information, we think you need not to initiate antiviral treatment now, but need to see your doctor and do related examinations on time. |

I have taken ^cocktail ̄ of ddI, d4T and NVP for a period, but viral load never show a reduction. Do you know why? |
| |
----------------------------------------------------------
It may be caused by HIV drug resistance. We suggest you take HIV-1 resistance genotyping test in related hospital, and changed drugs in ^cocktail treatment ̄ according to doctor's advice. |
